CASE # 007: Missing Show Dog (2.20.2006) (still missing)

This RV is still open, and your help is requested.

My translation:

The dog is alive, but very cold and dehydrated and must be found soon.  I also think that the dog may return to the exact location where it ran away on 2.21.2006, and suggest the owners wait there while sending a search team to the location drawn above.

In my mind I flew over the area, and the dogs path it took is marked in dashed lines, the first drawing is from a bird flying 6 or 7 hundred feet in the air, looks like a map of Florida surrounded by water on three sides.  The dog is right now in the box I drew on the bottom of the first drawing.

The next drawing is the box above, the dog is lying next to some sort of power box with puddles of water all around.  Maybe a fence nearby and the number 15 I'm sure means something.

My recommendation:

Do not give up until the dog is found, wish I was there to help you :)

Also, please do not email me about why I'm using remote viewing to find a dog instead of missing people, to date I have honored all missing people requests and I have done this for free, and will continue to do so.

Brian,

I spoke with the owner today regarding the dog and gave them your website regarding your information on the dog.

The man was very nice stating yes they were the ones whom lost the dog and yes they have used physics to locate their animals prior I told him please look at your site and orally gave him the link below. He said would check out your site.

That was the end of the conversation. I called at 9:30 am central time in California that is 7:30 am.

Vivi is still missing, search planned for Saturday.

March 1, 2006 2:00 a.m. Central Time
There is a new reward flyer out on Vivi and I am pleased to announce it is in English/Spanish. http://newsday.typepad.com/news_local_flaim/files/ViviNewFlyer.pdf
Please feel free to print them off and post them. A good place to start is gas stations, putting one under the windshield wiper of postal delivery vehicles, all city and county vehicles, gas stations, stop signs, utility poles, etc. Please remember where you distributed them, so you can remove them when Vivi is found.

For all the rumors which were flying you can read the events which took place surrounding Vivi going missing from one of the co-owners Paul. http://newsday.typepad.com/news_local_flaim/

I am happy to post a fund has been set up for Vivi, so please give generously. "Paul Lepiane for Vivi Fund", P.O. Box 479, Ojai, CA 93024.

February 27, 2006 12:00 p.m. Central time
Vivi is still missing. The owners have returned to California. The reward is $5,000 for the safe return of Vivi. "Jil (owner) suggested that instead of offering to contribute to the reward for finding Vivi those who wish to donate money should do so to Bonnie Folz and rescue efforts. I’ll be happy to forward information as required."

The owners, friends and rescuers have done everything to find Vivi from aerial searchs, live traps at the airport, two sets of search dogs used, at least a dozen psychics have been consulted or have provided information, Pet Hunters International (pet detective agency), search parties, posters, ads placed, etc.

At this point there have been no recent sightings of Vivi. This is like looking for a needle in the haystack considering the airport alone is about 5,000 acres or 21 miles with most being a restricted area. This is a dog who is 30 pounds and 20 inches tall at the shoulders and has outwitted everyone with her ability to play hide and seek. People are angry with Delta for it happening and do not understand why the owners are not doing more. People are concerned about Vivi being in a strange place so far from home with a skinny dog and the cold climate. Why can't anyone find Vivi and provide the a happy ending to the story?

This would be like having a very special ant who got turned loose in your house and you just need to find it. The only clue you have is the ant was turned loose in the doorway of the dining room. First, you have to find the ant as soon as possible, in anyway possible, whereby it is safe.  Just like with dogs -- you can't buy insurance to protect the amount you will spend to recover the ant. If you let to many in to search, they could unknowingly harm the ant or let the ant out. Then you start wondering if the ant is there or did the ant escape already. By now you are living, eating and breathing the search to find this ant. People will chime in with suggestions at an alarming rate and leaving little time for even being able to sleep or think. Some will have no clue what the deal is about "an ant". You know deep in your soul, there is no guarantee you will ever find the ant. After a while it becomes clear it is not as easy as it looks to find the ant. You have tried everything possible. The only thing which rings in your brain and brings tears to your eyes is the love, dream and future you had of this ant? You know there was no guarantee this ant will ever produce in the future other special ants. Your chance of winning the lottery have better odds. You know if you do recover the ant it maybe injured/sick, but you have already spent thousands on your ant. You have spent all your free time caring for your ants. You have missed family get togethers as no one would be able to take care of your ants the way you could and do.

You sure hope if the ant escaped, she is warm and a good citizen will see and put a happy ending to the worst nightmare of your life. And you will gladly pay the reward and wonder if you will ever be the same again. .

If you heard Vivi was found, it is a RUMOR.

New Search Party for Saturday
Bonnie promised she would go home tonight and rest, but instead she's emailing weekend plans.
To wit: The next Vivi Volunteer Search Party will be on Saturday, February 25 starting bright and early at 8 a.m. and continuing throughout the day. Meet at the Vetport, Cargo Area "C," Bldg.#189, on the N. Service Ct. between Pilot Rd and Cargo Plaza. Please dress warm.  Bring a leash, treats, binoculars and flashlight.

We need "Vivi Watchers" and "Vivi Searchers." At this point, we need a sighting. I cannot thank the Vivi volunteers enough.  Whether it was walking around in the airport, driving the various neighborhoods, going out in the freezing weather on foot or by boat, making calls and networking, or sending good thoughts across the miles.  It is much needed AND much appreciated!

THANK YOU!
(Is there anyone who works for law enforcement, animal rescue, or an energy company where they could gain access to a handheld infrared red heat sensor device by renting, begging, borrowing or stealing one?? It would be nice if someone would bring one and give a demostration to the ability of these wonderful pieces of technology...)

Viva Vivi -- How You Can Help
Vivi's owners, friends and this intrepid blogger receive daily emails and phone calls from folks who want to know how they can help search for the lost whippet, but who are at a loss over where to start.

Please read the following carefully:
Searchers are now focusing on finding Vivi in an area of the airport that is restricted and off limits to the public. The Port Authority continues to give Vivi's owners access to the area so they can bait and check traps. Under no circumstances should anyone try to access this restricted area, as the agency and searchers have that fully under control.

What is needed now is a sighting of the white-and-brindle whippet, so searchers can confirm their strong hunch that they are looking in the correct place.

Paul Lepiane, Vivi's co-owner, asks that any volunteers head to Hamilton Beach Park, a publically accessible area just west of the A train tracks and the airport, and just south of the intersection of 104th Street and 165th Avenue. You will need strong binoulars or a telescope, as the distance between the park and the shoreline is blocked by another strip of inaccessible land and is five or six city blocks long.

"Sit there with a coffee or hot chocolate, and just look at the beach for a glimpse of her," Paul says.

The ideal times to look would be when Vivi would visit the marshland to hunt, just before and after dawn (5 a.m. to 8 a.m.) and dusk (4 p.m. and 7 p.m.).

The searchers are also trying to survey the shoreline from the water. If you own a boat and are willing to safely and legally navigate the waters near this part of the airport, respecting any marine restrictions that might be in place, contact Bonnie Folz, a Howard Beach resident who is helping to coordinate searchers, at pawsativebf@aol.com.

February 23, 2006 at 8:44 a.m. central time
Tracks were found in the sand late yesterday, more live traps were placed in the area and a boat (Sea Tow) with 4 of our volunteers going out this morning.  I'm gonna head out and check down in Hamilton Beach with binoculars before work.  I hear helicopters zooming around as I type, could just be for shadow traffic but.... Fingers crossed, Vivi is found. Bonnie

A Pawprint in the Sand
Vivi searchers report that they have found pawprints on the beach that could belong to the MIA whippet, who escaped from her California-bound crate at JFK Airport precisely one week ago.
"We have two live traps out there now" in the airport's off-limits marshland and wildlife area, "and we will be relocating them" closer to the dog tracks, said Honi Reisman of Baldwin, who has been spearheading the search along with Vivi's co-owner Paul Lepiane.
Vivi's other owner, Jil Walton, who flew back this morning from California to rejoin the search, and Paul spotted the tracks earlier today.
Honi said the searchers plan to put three more food-baited live traps in the area tomorrow.
The dog tracks are fairly fresh, perhaps as little as a day old, and were found in the sand on the airport's western shoreline. Accessible through a dog-size hole in the airport fencing, the beach is fairly close to heated and vacant outbuildings in one of the airport's cargo areas.

Update as of 2-22-06 3:37 p.m. Central Time Zone

From Bo Bengtson   PLEASE CROSS POST AT WILL

Vivi update Tuesday night Thanks to Jeffrey Kimmelman for agreeing to post daily updates for those who are inquiring about the search for Vivi. We have had several hundred emails in addition to countless telephone calls, faxes and other inquiries, so please forgive us if we cannot respond to everything. Please feel free to cross-post this and tell anyone interested to go to www.awc2006.com for updates, since I cannot reply to all the messages.  As of Tuesday evening there has still been no confirmed sighting of Vivi since she
disappeared last Wednesday morning at JFK. As has already been posted elsewhere (I believe), the good news yesterday was that some dog feces were found close to a building which is a little remote from the rest of the cargo area & shy; exactly where both psychics and common sense tell us Vivi would hang out. The feces appeared to be no more than perhaps a day old. Since there may be other dogs at the airport there is no guarantee that this is Vivi's, however. A few feral cats hang out in the same area which may indicate that it's not impossible to find food there.

The Port Authority agreed to allow access for a Search & Rescue team, with the costs generously donated by Westminster Kennel Club,

for which we are immensely grateful. The team, consisting of handlers, a German Shepherd and a Rottweiler, with Paul and Honi present as well, have been searching all day and did not pick up any fresh scent (as you may know, the airport consists of thousands of acres; just the cargo area has 100-150 buildings). However, they picked up what they believe is older Vivi scent but the tracks did not lead anywhere, which is confusing. If she is indeed there she is obviously ranging much further than expected.

The traps are still out but have not resulted in any success so far. A search party of more than 50 volunteers fanned out across the residential areas close to JFK but as far as we know has come up with nothing. We are immensely grateful to all of them and to Bonnie Folz for co-ordinating this.

A Japan Airlines official has helped by emailing dozens of "Lost Dog" flyers to all the cargo departments with Paul's information about how to respond if Vivi is sighted. The psychic that Paul has dealt the most with, Beatrice Lydecker, is flying in to NY tonight because she is getting the message that Vivi is tired and cold. Bea is very worried about her. Jil is on a stand-by flight tonight and will hopefully get in to JFK in the morning. I am leaving as soon as I can, not later than Friday. (Fran Reisman has agreed to watch the house and the dogs; I am extremely nervous about leaving my dogs out of my sight right now but trust her to care for them.)
We have so far been very careful not to lay undue blame for Vivi's loss on Delta Airlines: nobody knows exactly how she got loose, and we have focused on trying to find Vivi. However, the fact is that the dog was lost while in their care. Individual Delta employees have
been helpful with transportation, hotel rooms, etc. but the airline has in no way offered to participate in the search after the first day(when one Delta employee drove with Jil in the Port Authority car on the initial search). Joan Goldstein has been calling Delta officials and spoke with one executive and his secretary, who were sympathetic but would give no information whatsoever, not even whether an internal investigation was going on. I called the same number today and left a message with both my
telephone numbers to the receptionist but the call was not returned although I was promised it would. I will try again tomorrow. The media interest has not dropped off, and we continue to cooperate with them since greater visibility means that Vivi has more chance of being recognized if she should be outside the airport area. The TV crews who interviewed Paul today say that they have to keep up the coverage because they are getting more response to this than to any other current story. Thanks for your support and good wishes. We need them! Bo

Updates as of 2-21-06 2:41 a.m. Central Time Zone.

Here is a page who has excellent updates to the story.  KUDOS to all the coverage and excellent job by everyone.

Monday afternoon 2-20-06, one of those psychic leads appeared to have paid off. Lepiane said dog droppings consistent with the 30-pound whippet's were found behind a cargo building in the northwest section of the airport.

http://dogdetective.com/dogs/16710.html

There have been many offers to help with the reward. I will keep you posted once she is found safe and sound and back in her Mom and Dad's arms. Hopefully, NO ONE will ever experience the pain of having a dog missing/lost or stolen.

"When you bring a dog into your life, you begin a journey - a journey that will bring you more love and devotion than you have ever known, yet also test your strength and courage. If you allow, the journey will teach you many things, about life, about yourself, and most of all, about love. You will come away changed forever, for one soul cannot touch another without leaving its mark."
-- Crystal Ward Kent

And for those who say -- It is just a DOG!!

From time to time, people tell me, "lighten up, it's just a dog," or, "that's
a lot of money for just a dog." They don't understand the distance traveled,
the time spent, or the costs involved for "just a dog."
Some of my proudest moments have come about with "just a dog."

Many hours have passed and my only company was "just a dog," but I did not
once feel slighted. Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by
"just a dog," and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of "just a dog"
gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day.

If you, too, think it's "just a dog," then you will probably understand
phases like "just a friend," "just a sunrise," or "just a promise." "Just a
dog" brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and pure
unbridled joy. "Just a dog" brings out the compassion and patience that make
me a better person.

Because of "just a dog" I will rise early, take long walks
and look longingly to the future. So for me and folks like me, it's not
"just a dog" but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future,
the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment. "Just a dog" brings
out what's good in me and diverts my thoughts away from myself and the
worries of the day.

I hope that someday they can understand that it's not "just a dog" but the
thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being "just a man." So the
next time you hear the phrase "just a dog." just smile, because they "just
don't understand." by Anna G. (Musings by Richard Biby, Contributing Editor

11.19.2006

Dear Brian:

I am concerned about the whippet dog, the show dog that was lost from Kennedy Airport around Febuary.  Surprisingly there has been indication as late as this past summer that the dog may be still alive.  I believe his scent was picked up at a graveyard.  Prior he was seen trying to eat food put out for the neighborhood cats where the homeowner chased him away.

I am concerned about the dog because I live near LaGuardia Airport and the dog has been sited in and around Flushing.  I hope that someone has adopted the dog and is giving it shelter.  Last night was cold and for a short hair dog, this may not be good.  Also there is a high probability that the dog can be hit by a car if it ends up on a major street or highway.

I have two dogs and they are like children to me.  If they were lost then I would be very depressed and would not be able to sleep until I found them.

I was hoping the dog would be found by now but I don't think it has.  At this point, if the dog has been befriended by people, it maybe difficult to catch.  What does your six sense tell you about the dog?  How the dog has survived till now, if it still is alive, is a miracle.  The best scenario would be that someone adopted the dog and the dog is alive and well.  I keep hoping this is the case.

I hope that this has a happy ending.  Is there anything I can do perhaps to find the dog if it is on the run?

Sincerely,

Susie

Hi, I believe the dog has been found some time ago, and is safe.

Hi:

I am trying to locate the Brian who did some work with regard to assisting in the location of the missing whippet, Vivi, who was lost in New York last February.  I am one of the long-distance volunteers, and I heard that you believe Vivi was caught some time ago, and is safe.  I would really appreciate any information you would have on this, since there is a disagreement as to whether Vivi was ever found.  I believe she was found in September, and has been kept by a local volunteer.  Many of the local volunteers deny that she was ever recovered.  A group of us are trying to get to the truth about what happened to her.  If you are able to shed any light at all on this, I would be extremely grateful.

reply

Oh, I see now, there was another RV done on this case, and basically it stated that the dog has been found, but the person who had the dog wanted the reward money to be raised.

I was in contact with someone related to this case 9 months ago, and they have all this information and so does the dogs owner.

Will look for this data, and post it when found.

Suggest you ask the dogs owner about the RV that was done.

reply

Thanks, Brian. I would really appreciate any information you are able to find on this.

 Beth Thompson

reply

Hi, looking right now, and I'm certain that the owner has a copy of the RV on this...it might have been private...but will keep looking.

reply

Thanks, Brian.  I would appreciate that.  We are trying to help the owners to locate the dog.  The owners have indicated to our group that the dog is still missing.  We are trying to follow up with any leads on where the dog might be.  The owners have been trying to follow up on different leads, and we are trying to assist them so we can cover all the bases.

Beth Thompson

reply

Ok, I suggest you contact the owners, as I definably remember telling them that the person that had the dog was waiting for the reward money to go up.  And I'm certain I got an email back stating they were not going to up the reward.

I even offered a way to catch the person that had the dog without the reward money...also remember giving them the location of where the person lived and even a sketch of the home.

I also remember being ignored after doing this.

Brian

reply

Hi Brian:

I am sorry that you were ignored.  Do you remember when you gave them this information?  Was it recently?  They have received so much information from so many sources.  That's one of the reasons we are attempting to help out.  We are prepared to do an investigation as to the person with the dog.  If you are able to find that information and provide it to me, my volunteer group will follow up on it, I can guarantee that.

 Beth Thompson

reply

Hi, it was week or two after the dog went missing, I'm sure they remember this.

Brian

1.3.2007

This is what I have found so far, click on the DD for additional information.

I'm pretty sure the second RV on this case was private, but I'm still looking for it.

1.4.2006

Hi Brian:

Do you know when this was done?  I'm trying to get a sense of when Vivi was found.  I was unable to access the additional information.

 Thank you,

Beth Thompson

reply

The DD is dated July 2nd, 2006...but that was just a dream.  Not sure of the date of the 2nd RV, I would say a few weeks after the dog went missing.  What did the owners say?

Brian

reply

Thank you, Brian.  No response at this point.

Our evidence suggests that Vivi was not captured until the end of the summer of this year.  There appears to be fairly good evidence through trackers that she was still loose on the streets until then, but of course, that might be wrong.

 Beth

reply

Oh, ok, that does not match with my RV and sorry I could not be of any help.

Brian

1.4.2006

Brian:

It seems like you feel she was recovered much earlier, is that right?  Of course, that's entirely possible.  There have been no confirmed sightings of her since she left the airport in February.

 Beth

reply

Hi, yes I do.  It would be best if you contact the owners and look at the RV I did for them, it explains in detail what happened.  I have search my PC and emails and have not been able to find it.  I think the RV was private, but I usually keep a copy somewhere.  If I find it, will let you know.

Brian

reply

Thanks, Brian.  I'll try and contact them again about it.  I appreciate your help.  A group of us have just been finding it hard to deal with Vivi being lost in NYC since February -- such a difficult time for her.  We would be relieved to know that she had been found and was being cared for.   The poor dog didn't deserve what happened to her after the Westminister dog show.

Beth

reply

No problem, and I hope you locate the dog soon.

Brian

reply

I hope so too!
