Recorded phone conversations between three suspects in the disappearance of Alabama teen Natalie Holloway could be the evidence needed to propel the case forward, according to a Dutch newspaper.

Citing anonymous detectives in Aruba, De Telegraff reported Friday that police have taped conversations between Joran van der Sloot and brothers Deepak and Satish Kalpoe from earlier this year which contradict their earlier testimony regarding Holloway's disappearance.

The Kalpoe brothers were arrested in Aruba Wednesday while police in the Netherlands took in Dutch college student van der Sloot.

"New material in the investigation" led to the arrests, prosecutors said — although they refused to reveal the nature of the new evidence.

Holloway, of Mountain Brook, Ala., was last seen leaving a bar with the three men on May 30, 2005, hours before she was scheduled to fly home with high school classmates celebrating their graduation on the Dutch Caribbean island. She was 18 at the time.

Hundreds of volunteers, Aruban soldiers, police and FBI agents — even Dutch air force planes — searched for the missing teen, but no trace was ever found.

Van der Sloot and the Kalpoe brothers previously had been detained on suspicion of involvement in the woman's death, but they denied involvement and a judge released them for lack of evidence.

The Kalpoes' attorney, David Kock, did not return a call for comment Thursday, but told a local radio station that the latest arrests were "an action of despair."

"There was no reason for their arrest now," he said. "We will take all kinds of measures to give our clients their freedom as soon as possible."

Holloway's father said Thursday that he and a team of experts will now search for his daughter's body in the waters off Aruba.

Dave Holloway told The Associated Press he believes his daughter's body was thrown into the ocean in deeper waters than those already searched. He said he based that belief on conversations with a police official and a private forensic expert.

Holloway said a private boat owner is providing divers and sonar equipment with the ability to map the ocean floor.

"It's like this: we've searched all the land areas ... It's common knowledge on the island that if someone were to dispose of the body, it would be out in the ocean," he said by telephone.

Authorities never searched in waters deeper than 330 feet, so the family will do so now that it has the capability, equipment and expertise, Holloway said, adding that police would be alerted if anything is found.

"I hope I'm not going to be disappointed," Dave Holloway said. "We've seen these arrests and re-arrests in the past."

Van der Sloot's mother, Anita, denied her son was re-arrested and said he was merely being taken to Aruba "for a final reconstruction."

She said by telephone that investigators had recently questioned her family and that of the Kalpoe brothers.

"The questions they asked were so obvious: things like, 'Why did Joran leave his shoes on the beach,"' she said, referring to the place where her son said he kissed Holloway alone before her disappearance. "I think it's ridiculous after two-and-a-half years to be doing this."

Van der Sloot was expected to arrive in Aruba sometime Friday evening.

In April, investigators from the Netherlands dug around the home of van der Sloot's family for two days without revealing what prompted the search. Then in May, Dutch and Aruban investigators visited the home where Deepak and Satish Kalpoe live with their parents for what authorities termed an "inspection."

Hi, I believe she was involved in human trafficking, and for one reason or another, does not want to be found.  Could be the type of work she is involved in...if they have evidence she is dead, then I guess I'm wrong...but I hope not.   I think her family maybe the main reason she does not want to be found, so no, I do not think so.

ORANJESTAD, ARUBA -- Aruban prosecutors announced Tuesday that the case into Natalie Holloway's disappearance is now closed.

The Alabama teen disappeared in Aruba during a class trip to the island back in May of 2005.

Today, prosecutors said that the three men who were last seen with Holloway have all been notified that they will not be charged.

A spokesperson says Natalie's mother, Beth Twitty, is "deeply disappointed" that the case is closed, after being hopeful over the past few weeks that new evidence had surfaced.

In their statement, prosecutors say they still believe the three men are involved in Holloway's disappearance, but cannot prove a crime was committed because her body was never found

The Fat Lady Sang For FOX's Greta Van Susteren Last Night

FOX’s Greta Van Susteren,whose entertaining show,On The Record,has been
the source for much of the air time allocated over the last 12
interminable calendar months to Beth Reynolds Holloway-Twitty ((the
media-maven-loving mother of the missing Natalie Holloway),had the great
good fortune last night to interview Joran van der Sloot’s New York
City-based lawyer,Mr. Joseph Tacopina.

Mr. Tacopina,never one to mince words or to leave dunces in doubt about
their dumbness,quite happily hammered home his latest findings,which
originated from the Tacopina Coffin Nail Factory:

There is irrefutable proof (from the Holiday Inn’s keylog records) that
Natalie Holloway’s Holiday Inn room was accessed 3 times on the morning
of the vanishing (at around 1:30 a.m. and twice around 3:30 a.m.) by a
keycard assigned to Natalie Holloway,showing that she may have retrieved
her keycard from the individual who had used it at 1:26 a.m.; and she
therefor may very well have accessed her room at 3:30 a.m. after
returning from the Marriott Beach where she was left by the innocent
Joran van der Sloot.

Mr Tacopina is now in possession of a witness statement given to the
ALE,attesting that the witness “knows Natalie was in her room after 3
a.m.”; which fully supports that decisive on-air statement made by
Frances Ellen Byrd,11 months earlier.

On June 2,2005,MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough interviewed trip participant
Frances Ellen Byrd in Mountain Brook,as follows:

Joe Scarborough : Let me ask you,Frances Ellen,when is the last time you
saw her?
Frances Ellen Byrd: That night.
Scarborough : Yes, you saw her the night...
Byrd: I was with her that night.
Scarborough : You were with her that night.
Byrd: Yes. Yes.
Scarborough : All the friends went back to the hotel. And did you all
see her go back to the hotel or not?
Byrd: I am just leaving it that we saw her there.
Scarborough : Saw her that night.
Byrd: Right.
Mountain Brook youth minister: Yes. Absolutely”

Further questioning was derailed by the interjections of a Mountain
Brook minder,a youth pastor (Mark Yoder),who was not a trip participant
and therefore could not have had any first-hand knowledge of the
clarification which the interviewer had just received.

While the following is not a coffin nail of Joe’s manufacture,it does
suck a bit of wind out of the HMI sails,as it suggests that articles,
worn or carried by Natalie and shown on the C&C’s video tapes,may have
been removed from Aruba,though recognized now as being ‘evidence’.

A Dutch TV program was on Aruba last week,re-enacting the night of the
vanishing,and the producers attempted to create as much authenticity as
possible by using whatever was on hand that directly related to the
events which occured on that evening (Deepak Kalpoe’s car was
confiscated by the ALE for the filming).

Ms. Twitty made a most-curious on-air comment about the television
production, ‘hoping they (the ALE) don’t use the evidence I sent them’.
‘Evidence’ would seemingly have to be something that was on Aruba,
something that was taken from Aruba, and which was then was returned to
Aruba.

What might constitute ‘evidence’ (taken off island and then returned)
which could tie into the C&C’s video tape? Clothing or Nat’s cell phone
come immediately to mind; however, how could these items get into the
mother’s possession, if Natalie never returned to the Holiday Inn after
being left by Joran at the Marriott Beach?

If one follows this through logically, the easiest way for the mother to
obtain articles which her daughter wore or carried on that C&C evening
(confirmed by C&C's video footage), and which may have been those
returned to the ALE, would be for her to have had them on hand in
Mountain Brook.

If the mother had these items in her possession, then that would be
further proof that Natalie did come back to the Holiday Inn, as she
would have gone to her hotel room, changed into different clothes, and
then the discarded C&C articles would be packed into Natalie's suitcase
by Nat or the room mates and eventually taken back to MB by the mother.

There now appears to be a rue-filled collective outpouring of repressed
memory by a selective coterie of MB trip participants (more on this
later); whether this has evolved into direct communication with Mr.
Tacopina remains to be seen.

Much has been made, over the last 12 months, of the unsettling focus and
drive of Ms. Twitty and her hangers-on (some called her the Energizer
Mother); it now seems that what may have motivated her was a refusal to
accept facts, and perhaps an extreme case of obsessive compulsive
behavior.

A word to the wise to the good folks behind International Safe Travels
Foundation: inasmuch as this made-for-the-media mystery is seemingly
unravelling rapidly and is in such a state of flux, might you not want
to consider disconnecting the ‘make a donation’ link on your website?
Save yourself from yourself, as some malcontents might end up asking for

Natalie Holloway And The Holiday Inn

FOX’s Greta Van Susteren put the proverbial boots to Beth
Holloway-Twitty’s donation-directed assaults upon the van der Sloot and
Kalpoe families when she aired, on her April 11 show, an over-the-phone
interview with Julia Renfrow, the well-respected editor of the Aruba
Today newspaper.

Ms. Renfow related, to a momentarily speechless Greta, that she had
recently viewed a video tape filmed by a Holiday Inn security camera at
about 3:15 a.m. on May 30, 2005. The camera, angled to provide coverage
of the front-desk area, captured images of a young girl (wearing the
same outfit as the one which Natalie Holloway had on in the C&C’s videos
taken a couple of hours earlier) who has a remarkably similar hair style
and gait to the missing Natalie and who is afflicted with her
distinctive nose and figure (unflatteringly commented upon by the
mother).

This video,which has been in the possession of the ALE since June 1,had
purportedly been previously shown in June to Natalie’s birth father,
Dave Holloway,who was unable to confirm whether or not it was his
daughter,and to Natalie’s mother who,despite the clothing,shoes,
distinctively large nose and small chest,denied that it was her daughter
who had been caught on tape by the hotel’s security camera.

A picture speaks a thousand words; yet we also have thousands of words
to buttress this tape of the reappeared daughter,who did not disappear
from the Marriott Beach,but from the supposedly safe embrace of the
Holiday inn,where she was ensconced with 120 Mountain Brook grads and a
gaggle of myopic or obtuse non-chaperoning chaperones

Statements have recently surfaced from two Holiday Inn security guards
who attest to Ms. Holloway’s presence on the premises after 3:00 a.m. on
the morning in question; the Holiday Inn’s keylock system recorded two
entries, using the keycard issued to Ms. Holloway, at around 3:30 that
morning; and a rather unsavoury local resident has suggested that he
viewed Ms. Holloway in her room, also after 3:00 a.m.

The enigmatic answer of Ms. Frances Ellen Byrd now becomes clear: she
did indeed see Natalie in the hallways of the Holiday Inn after the
young Aruban, Joran van der Sloot, left her on the beach in front of the
Marriott hotel. Ms. Byrd, who comes from a fine, upstanding Southern
family, obviously wrestled with her conscience while HMI used her
reticence with words to parlay the mystery into tens of millions in
donated dollars.

And also aired tonight was the Dutch-filmed re-enactment of the
vanishing timeframe,put together in the hopes that some viewers’
memories might be jogged by the events,locales,materials and individuals
recreated as close to reality as was possible.

My memory wasn’t just jogged; it was jolted and jarred. WHAT!! In the
opening scenes,Natalie Holloway was shown passing through the Aruban
customs area,accompanied by a large black suitcase on rollers
(containing a purple duffel bag). Yet,when the media-maven-loving mother
showed us the contents of what was purported to be Natalie’s Holiday Inn
room,there was no large black suitcase,only the duffel,which was passed
off as being the sole item of luggage taken to Aruba by the daughter.

This was a re-enactment,as true-to-life as was possible. IMO,if the
rolling black suitcase is shown in the re-enactment,then there was one
brought to Aruba by the now-missing daughter. Where is it and what
happened to it?

Was it jettisoned (and why would anyone do that?); was it used for
nefarious purposes (stuffed full of body parts?); was it stolen (and why
would anyone do that,and why wouldn't Beth report that theft as another
indignity heaped upon her pointy little head by unkind Aruba?); or was
Nat sitting beside it last night,watching the re-enactment?

Take your pick: however,the fact that HMI seems to have attempted to
cover up the existence of that suitcase means that its absence is likely
mighty relevant.

However,absent no longer is visual proof showing Natalie Holloway back
in the lobby of the Holiday Inn at 3:15 a.m. on May 30, 2005.

If you save the pic it saves as file name "NAT11'. I find that interesting as I always got the number eleven associated with Natalie.

 

But interestingly, this picture is a classmate of Natalie's taken at a New Year's Eve party at which Natalie also attended. AND, this same guy was on the Aruba trip with her. He is in the picture of Natalie dancing at C&C, one of the last pics taken of her. Funny how he remained in the picture but the boy Natalie was dancing with was cut out of the picture that is floating around the internet.

 

Maybe you could do another dream drawing on Natalie. And while you are at it, do one of Amy Bradley. I always sense they met the same fate.

Aruba Reopens Investigation Into Teen's Disappearance

After a Dutch journalist declared that his private investigation had solved the mysterious disappearance of American teenager Natalie Holloway, the chief prosecutor in Aruba announced today that he is reopening the case.

Van der Sloot Confronts Reporter

Reporter Peter R. de Vries said he used a sophisticated network of hidden cameras in what he called an "undercover operation" to obtain evidence that he claimed "has solved the mystery" of Holloway's disappearance on May 30, 2005.

The mystery behind the disappearance of the blond teenager has eluded efforts by the Aruba police and even the FBI for more than two years.

De Vries said he showed some of the key pieces of evidence to the Office of the Public Prosecutor of Aruba, Jan. 24, and the island's chief prosecutor, Hans Mos, announced today that he has "intensified [the] investigation of Natalie Holloway due to recently received information."

Mos had publicly closed the investigation last month after an exhausting and often frustrating two-year probe.

"This information may shed a new light on the mode of which Natalie Holloway has died and the method by which her body disappeared," Mos said today.

He credited de Vries with uncovering the leads and said, "This information may help considerably in the solution of the mystery of Natalie's disappearance."

De Vries said that he and his team had been conducting an undercover operation for several months, and that he would broadcast his findings in a special program on Dutch television this Sunday.

The only piece of the upcoming program the de Vries would release was a conversation between himself and Mos after he showed police the evidence he had collected. "Am I sitting opposite a happy man now?" de Vries asks Mos. The prosecutor is shown answering, "Now at least the truth is surfacing and with that we can at least wrap up this case."

The Alabama teenager disappeared after a boozy night in an Aruban nightclub during a high school graduation trip. She was last seen outside Carols 'n Charlies bar with Joran van der Sloot, who is from Holland, and the brothers Deepak and Satish Kalpoe, from Aruba. They have twice been arrested, denied any involvement in her disappearance, and released due to lack of evidence.

After his latest release, Van der Sloot did a television interview with de Vries earlier this month where the reporter challenged his honesty. Van der Sloot was calm during the interview, but after the cameras were turned off he threw a glass of wine in de Vries' face.

The incident prompted de Vries to comment, "He doesn't have complete control over his behavior."

Footage claims to solve Aruba mystery

Hidden camera footage broadcast in the Netherlands on Sunday showed Dutch student Joran Van der Sloot saying he was with Natalie Holloway when she collapsed on a beach in Aruba. He said he believed she was dead and asked a friend to dump her body in the sea.

"She'll never be found," he said.

A series of conversations between Van der Sloot and a man he believed to be his friend were recorded in a Range Rover that had been rigged with three hidden cameras by Peter R. de Vries, a Dutch television crime reporter. They were shown on Dutch television.

Last week, Van der Sloot said he was lying in those conversations and denied that he had anything to do with the Alabama teenager's disappearance.

Holloway, 18, vanished in May 2005 just before she was due to fly home to Alabama, at the end of her high school graduation trip to the Caribbean island. No trace of her has been found. The mystery of her disappearance has frustrated authorities and garnered wide attention on television and in tabloid newspapers in Europe and the United States.

In the recordings, Van der Sloot said Holloway was drunk and that she began shaking and slumped down on the beach as the pair were making out.

"Suddenly she started shaking and then she didn't say anything," Van der Sloot said, adding that he did not kill her.

"I would never murder a girl," he said.

He said he panicked and tried but failed to revive her. He said that Holloway looked dead but that he could not be sure she was not still alive when the friend took her away.

He used a pay phone next to a hotel's swimming pool to call the friend and asked for help in disposing the body. When the friend arrived at the beach, the two put Holloway's body into a boat. The friend then took it out to sea and pushed it into the water, Van der Sloot said.

"The ocean is big," he added.

He said he and his friend agreed that Van der Sloot would go to school the next day to avoid arousing any suspicion.

Van der Sloot said his friend assured him he had taken care of Holloway's body and that the police were not going to locate it. "They will know nothing," Van der Sloot quoted the friend as telling him.

"I've not lost any sleep over this," he added at one point.

Aruban prosecutors said last week they were reopening their investigation into Holloway's disappearance after seeing De Vries' material. But on Sunday, they said a judge on the island had ruled that while the information merited an investigation against Van der Sloot, it did not meet the threshold for an arrest warrant.

"This means that the office is legally not able to have J.v.d.S. arrested in the Netherlands," prosecutors said in a statement, referring to the Dutch student by his initials. The statement did not say when the judge made the ruling.

The prosecutors said they would appeal the judge's ruling and seek to have the Dutch student re-arrested. They also cautioned that the Holloway mystery was far from resolved.

"While video tape may present a strong case in a TV news show, it may be insufficient for a finding of guilt by a judge. It is up to the court to evaluate the materials and the statements, and to find out their significance," prosecutors said.

Van der Sloot was interviewed last week by the respected Dutch television show "Pauw & Witteman" following reports that De Vries had captured him making statements about the case.

"It is true I told someone. Everybody will see it Sunday," Van der Sloot said, referring to De Vries' planned television show.

"That is what he wanted to hear, so I told him what he wanted to hear," Van der Sloot said, adding that he had built up a relationship with the man he spoke to, but had never fully trusted him.

De Vries has said he paid the man Van der Sloot spoke to, Patrick van der Eem, $37,000 for his help, saying it was to cover his expenses.

Phone calls seeking comment from Van der Sloot's Aruban attorneys and his New York-based lawyer, Joseph Tacopina, went unanswered Sunday.

Last week, Tacopina told The Associated Press that "the evidence refutes what Joran supposedly said."

"It doesn't change the truth of this case. And the truth is, Joran had nothing to do with Natalie's death," he said.

Holloway, of Mountain Brook, Ala., was last seen in public leaving a bar with Van der Sloot and two Surinamese brothers — Deepak and Satish Kalpoe — hours before she was due to board a flight home.

The three were re-arrested in November, but released within weeks for lack of evidence. All three have always denied any role in her disappearance.

The Dutch student's father, Paul Van der Sloot, declined to comment when reached in Aruba before the tape aired.

De Vries also aired images of Holloway's mother, Beth Twitty, as he showed her the footage.

Clasping together her hands, she moved her lips silently as she watched the images.

"They could have just dumped her alive in the ocean, unconscious," she said. "They don't even know."

"I hope his living hell is about to begin and that he never gets another night's sleep," she added.

Hi, I have seen the undercover video...it looks like I was wrong to me.

But, right or wrong, there is still the possibility that she may still be alive and was taken by drug smugglers...it happens all the time.

I also could not find confirmation that Natalie visited a drug rehab center before she visited Aruba, despite what the story says.

Everyone just wants closure, but would not jump to conclusions over a kid caught bragging on video just yet.

Was this the only confession they taped, if not, did his other confessions match this one?  Did he ever mention drug use?

Did he really assume the case was closed, or did he suspect a trap. 

He said his friends disposed of the body...why would they volunteer to do this in the first place?

July 2007 Amigoe article

On July 3, 2007, the Dutch Antilliean newspaper Amigoe reported on a documentary video being produced by Renée Gielen, previously best known for exposé documentaries about Curacao's Bon Futuro prison. The video is based in part on interviews with Dompig and with Renfro.
