This is another example as to why our Amber Alert System has too much redtape and needs to be fixed...local police should be able to make the call.

LAS VEGAS —  Two men posing as police officers kidnapped a 6-year-old boy in a drug dispute after entering his family's home and tying up his mother and her boyfriend, police said Thursday.

An Amber Alert was expanded nationwide as police searched for Cole Puffinburger, who was taken Wednesday, police said.

There is a definite "drug nexus," Las Vegas Police Capt. Vincent Cannito said at a news conference Thursday. "Significant money and drugs" were involved, he said, but he would not provide more details.

Two men identified themselves as police officers to gain entry to the home several miles northeast of downtown Las Vegas, Cannito said. They demanded money, and the home was ransacked and the couple tied up, he said.

"This child witnessed that," he said. "This child was ripped from the home."

Cannito would not say whether the family had been contacted about paying a ransom.

The boy is described as 3 feet 11 and 48 pounds, with blond hair, blue eyes and silver-framed glasses. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, tennis shoes, a black shirt, and a black zip-up sweat shirt with white, black and blue stars.

Authorities said that the two men posing as police were Hispanic and that a third man was also believed to be involved.

One suspect is described as having black, shoulder-length, slicked-back hair. The man, in his early 30s, is about 5 feet 7 and 150 pounds and was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans.

Authorities do not have a description of the other men or the getaway car, which delayed the initial posting Wednesday of the statewide alert.

"We're urging people, if they've seen anything, to contact our missing persons detail," Las Vegas police Officer Bill Cassell said.

"We've had a lot of tips," Cassell said. "The frustrating thing is we have nothing new at this point."

Regarding the Cole Puffinburger case...the map you have
pasted on his case for the North Star Street..if you look
over to the right, the next street is S Valley View Blvd.
Didn't Reggie keep coming across an S street.  Could this
be the same, cz it does look like it would be a straight
main street.  The S may just mean South but it could be
what Reggie was getting..plus it is right by Gale's North
Star street.  Just a thought.

Also wasn't sure what email to send this to so I did both
aol and briansprediction one.  Let me know the right one
for future reference.

Nevada transportation officials canceled the alert for 6-year-old Cole Puffinburger on Saturday morning. They would not give details but planned an afternoon news conference.

Cole was abducted from a Las Vegas home Wednesday by three men posing as police officers. Police say they believe the men were drug dealers and that the kidnapping at gunpoint was a "message" to boy's grandfather.

The grandfather was arrested in Southern California after police named him a "person of interest."

The FBI arrested a man in Riverside late Friday in connection with a Las Vegas child kidnapping case.

Clemons Fred Tinnemeyer, 51, the grandfather of a kidnapped 6-year-old Nevada boy, was arrested by the FBI's fugitive task force in Riverside, said Laura Eimiller, a spokeswoman for the FBI in Los Angeles.

Tinnemeyer is being held a on a federal material witness warrant, she said. Eimiller said she did not know whether Tinnemeyer lived in Riverside but said information indicated he might be in the area.

Tinnemeyer was being held Saturday in the Central Detention Center in San Bernardino. The facility is a federal holding facility, said San Bernardino sheriff's spokeswoman Jodi Miller. The sheriff's department is not otherwise involved in the arrest or the case.

Law enforcement officers said they believe the child's kidnapping may be linked to drug dealings Tinnemeyer is suspected of having with Mexican nationals.

The boy, Cole Puffinburger, was abducted from a Las Vegas home Wednesday morning by three men posing as police officers. Police said they believe the men were Mexican drug dealers and that the kidnapping at gunpoint was a "message" to Tinnemeyer.

Tinnemeyer may have stolen millions of dollars from the Mexican nationals, said Officer Cris Johnson, a Las Vegas police spokesman. Johnson declined to say what role Tinnemeyer played in the drug operation or whether the kidnappers were seeking a ransom. Police believe methamphetamine was involved, Johnson said.

Nevada transportation officials canceled the alert for Cole on Saturday morning.
